Franklin Gray Obituary

Franklin Windell Gray, 68, of Clinton left this earthly life for his eternal rest on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, from Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

He was born on August 16, 1954, in Rose Hill, North Carolina; the son of the late William Franklin and Nelma Casteen Gray.  Windell was also preceded in death by his brother, Craig Benjamin Gray.

He was a member of New Freedom Free Will Baptist Church.

Surviving are his children, William Joseph “Joe” Gray and wife Tonya of Clinton and David Hadnal Gray and wife Mallory of Raleigh; grandchildren Franklin Gray and friend Olivia and Madison Gray; sisters Winnie Bond and husband Dougy and Sebelia Sholar; sister-in-law Sonia Gray; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends that loved Franklin dearly.

Windell, as he was known by friends and family, was a loving and caring father, grandfather, brother and friend.  He enjoyed the simplest things in life but his greatest joy was his family.  Being a hard worker, Windell  loved farming and planting crops on God’s beautiful land.  He loved spoiling his ‘grandpups’, which he did a lot of.  Windell loved people and never met a stranger.  He was one who loved to laugh and make others laugh with him.  Windell will surely be missed but treasured memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Wallace Chapel with Pastors David Walker and Buster Price officiating.

The family will receive friends from 12 Noon to 1:00pm on Saturday, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at Winnie and Dougy Bonds residence.

Burial will follow the service in Gray Cemetery, Norwood Blanchard Road, Wallace, NC

Casketbearers will be Anthony Sholar, Adam Gray, Hank Bond, David Foy, Mickey Sholar, and Don Bell.
