Fredrick Norman Nance, 91, of Wilmington passed peacefully from his earthly life Thursday, March 12, 2020 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
He was born October 31, 1928 in Greensboro, one of seven children to James Franklin Nance and Lillie Mae Vaughan Nance. In addition to his parents, Fredrick was preceded in death by his six siblings.
Fredrick is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Esther Mae Evans Nance; sons, David Fredrick Nance (Rita) and Darryl Mills; daughters, Anita Roberts and Debbie Benton; nine grandchildren; and six great grandchildren; and many extended family and friends.
After retiring as a field claims representative from Social Security, Fredrick continued to work as a bank currier, taught English at Wayne Community College, and worked as a shuttle driver with Enterprise, Inc. As you note, Fredrick was a man with never an idle moment. He was quiet in nature, loved and provided for his family, and was a true Southern gentleman. Fredrick was enamored with cars, enjoyed trips to the mountains, and most of all loved his grandchildren. His presence in our family circle will truly be missed.
A memorial service will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 2020 at Penderlea Pentecostal Holiness Church, 8348 Penderlea Hwy, Willard, NC with Rev. Dean Walker and officiant David Nance II conducting the service.
A special thanks to Nikki Tomassetti Gray who was a devoted caregiver early in Fredricks illness.
