Gale Ann Durham

 Gale Ann Durham, 64, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 26, 2025, in Wilmington.

She was born on April 17, 1961, in Wantagh, NY. Gale was the youngest daughter of Rodman and Ann Weber.

Gale is survived by her sisters, Lynn Stepnowski (her husband, Ed) of Polk City, FL and Dawn Midgett of Wilmington, NC.

In addition to her parents, Gale was also preceded in death by her husband, John B. Durham; and niece, Kimberly J. Midgett- Putzu.

Gale and John met at Noble JHS and fell in love when they met again in the early nineties and married. They lived a comfortable life, enjoying boating and fishing at the "Cabin" on the Northeast Cape Fear River.

John worked for both the City and County in Wilmington. Gale worked at Lowes until she became disabled and had to retire.

They spent many happy years together until the sudden, unexpected death of John. Gale, who was devastated by the loss of her husband, arranged a special spreading of his ashes by the river they loved.

The passing of John left emptiness in Gales' heart. She made it her mission that the remainder of John's ashes be placed with her ashes at the time of her death, in Oakdale Cemetery. She spent the remainder of her life preparing for that time, Despite the rigors of daily life she endured through multiple surgeries and hardships. Through the years, Gales’ perseverance was seen by all who knew her. She will always be remembered by all who knew her as the lady who loved her cats and any animal that crossed her path. She loved to work with her plants and landscaping projects, and despite her handicaps, she could be seen climbing on her riding mower or down on the ground picking weeds.

May they dwell in the House of the Lord forever.

On behalf of her family, at Gale’s request, she would appreciate contributions in her name, to be given to any local cat rescue, or the ASPCA in tribute to her love of ALL animals.

Interment was held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Oakdale Cemetery, 520 North 15th Street, Wilmington, NC 28401.
