Gilberto Aponte, Sr.

Gilberto Aponte, Sr. of Magnolia passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at ECU Vidant Duplin Hospital. 

He was born on October 29, 1936 in Las Marias Puerto Rico; the son of the late Tomas Aponte and Providencia Rodrique Rivera Aponte.  

Mr. Aponte is survived by his devoted wife, Diane Resto Aponte; his four sons, Gilberto Aponte, Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla, David Michael Aponte of Magnolia, Timothy Aponte of Orlando, Fla and John Aponte of Magnolia.  He was also blessed with 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson; siblings, Nerida Aponte, Ida Aponte and Luis Aponte; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends that loved Gilberto dearly.  

Gilberto was a dedicated family man as a loving husband and caring father, grandfather and brother.  He enjoyed the simple things in life but his greatest joy was his family. He was a very spiritual minded man and a faithful servant of God.  He was a hard worker and great provider for his family.  With a kind heart and gentle personality, Gilberto was loved by all who knew him.  He was always upbeat, smiling and very friendly to everyone; never meeting a stranger.  He had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening and God's abundant nature.  Gilberto will surely be missed but treasured memories of him will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
