Gloria Jean (Pickett) Brown

     Gloria Jean Pickett Brown, 80, passed gently from her earthly life Friday, May 6, 2022 at Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

     She was born August 24, 1941, one fourteen children born to Luther Pickett and Nora Autry Pickett. In addition to her parents, ten siblings preceded Jean in death.

     Gloria is survived by her beloved husband, Gene Brown; children, Kimberly Stump (Kermit), Gene Brown, Jr., Bobby Wade Hatcher (Samantha), David Hatcher (Tami), and Pamela Thompson (Don); grandchildren, Aryn Coniglio, Ashtin Stump, Gregory Brown, Jordan Hatcher-Cole (Chris), Devon Hodges (Michael), Mari Turner (Chris),  David Hatcher, Jr. (Bobbi) and Valorie Emory (Brandon); nine great grandchildren; brothers, Roger Pickett (Shelby) and Kenneth Pickett (Shirley); sister, Rae Southerland; and many nieces and nephews.

     Gloria was a loyal member of Shiloh Baptist as well as a true Christian lady. She was a devoted wife, wonderful mother, grandma, great grandma, sister, and friend, who loved her family unconditionally. Gloria spent many hours working crosswords puzzles and table puzzles. She also enjoyed working with flowers in her yard. It is noted that Gloria possessed outstanding culinary skills and her cornbread was the best. Gloria's presence in our lives – family, church family, and many friends – will be greatly missed.

     The family will receive friends 3 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday (Mother’s Day – a day for all mothers to be honored, especially, Gloria) at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 9, 2022 at Shiloh Baptist Church, 19685 US Hwy 421, Willard, NC 28478. The Rev. Gardner Eakins will conduct the service. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
