Grace Whaley Obituary
A kind and gentle soul, a gracious and loving lady, Grace James Whaley entered into the Glory of her Lord on the Lord’s Day, Sunday, November 30, 2025 at the age of 96.
She was born September 9, 1929 in Duplin County, born to Walter Raleigh James and Lizzie Luvenia Thompson James.
In addition to her parents Grace was preceded in death by her brothers, Raleigh James, Butler James, Norwood James, and Durwood James; and sisters, Fedelia James Rouse, Gladys James Sydes and Lillian James Powell.
Grace is survived by her son, Harvey Franklin “Frankie” Bevins (Marion); daughter, Glenda Davenport Webb (Daniel); sisters, Rachel James Bell and Zannie Ruth James Brown; grandchildren, Eric Tomosunas (Audrey), Joey Bevins, Jason Bevins (Abby), Justin Bevins, and Laura Lee Meisel (Jason); great grandchildren, Emil, Zack and Rio Tomosunas, Kailey Newcomb (Blake), and Maria Milone; many extended family and friends.
Many will remember Grace working at Reeds Jewelers in Wilmington and Market Furniture in Wallace both for many years.
Grace was an extraordinary woman of God whose resounding faith and love for her family was unmatched. Her brightly shining light often served as a guide to those around her. Those that knew Grace well remember her passion for reading/studying her Bible. She was a true example of what it meant to be a Christian. Her presence in our lives will be forever missed, but we find solace in knowing she is at peace and rejoicing with her Almighty Father.
The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. at Pin Hook Church, 1650 Deep Bottom Road, Wallace, NC with funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 3, 2025. Pastor David Walker will conduct the service. Burial will follow in the James Cemetery.
