Hannah (Smith) James

Hannah Isabelle James, 85, of LaVale, MD and formerly of Wallace, NC passed away on July 11, 2020 at UPMC-Western Maryland. She was born in Fairmont, WV to the late Albert & Martha Smith on February 3, 1935. In addition to her parents she was proceeded in death by her husband Leonard; and three sons, Leonard, Chester, and Charles.

Hannah lived to care for her home and family. She found great joy in the simplest things, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially caring for her grandchildren and occasionally coloring and doing word search puzzles.  Hannah was a special lady who loved people and never met a stranger.  She will surely be missed but treasured memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.  

Hannah is survived by her son, Steven James and wife Jane of LaVale, and two daughters, Linda James of Mount Rainier, MD and Jacalyn James, Gaithersburg, MD; four grandchildren, Sharon Largen and Harry of Lothian, MD, Chentell Potavin and Andrew of Cumberland, Scott Carter and Ashley of Romney, and Matthew James of LaVale, MD; seven great-grandchildren, Ashley Largen, Jessica Largen, Brianna Potavin, Joseph Potavin, Scott Carter Jr., Skyler Linaburgh, and Riley Linaburgh; and a special friend Kevin.

The family will received friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.Tuesday, July 14th at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A. 108 Virginia Ave, Cumberland, MD  followed by the funeral service at 1:00pm at the funeral home with Pastor Lincoln Shook officiating.

Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 16th, 2020 in Rockfish Memorial Cemetery in Wallace, NC with the Reverend Rodney Bonham officiating.
