Harvey Sholar Obituary

Harvey Arnold Sholar, 74 of Rose Hill began his walk with the Lord on November 22, 2025, at Cedar Cove Memory Care, after battling dementia for almost five years.

Harvey was born on September 14, 1951, in Duplin County, to the late Edward Sholar and Frances Raynor Sholar. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Jo Teachey and Sue McLendon.

Harvey grew up on the family farm and attended school until he began his career with the Lundy Packing Company, where he worked as a truck driver during the 70’s and 80’s. Later, he began growing turkeys for Nash Johnson and was part owner of Sholar Brothers.

Surviving to cherish his memory is his son Jason Sholar and wife Holli of Wallace; grandchildren Breanah Sholar, Nick Sholar and wife Vanessa, Harleigh Sholar; great granddaughter Mylee Sholar; sisters, Judy Brigman (Tommy) of Wilmington, Jackie Wood, Jan Sholar, Tammy Lanier (Ray Jr.) all of Rose Hill, Lisa Yoas of Raleigh, Rhonda Pupp of Wilmington; brothers Harry Sholar, Buck Sholar (Lynn) and Butch Sholar (Karen) all of Rose Hill;  uncle Billy Ray Sholar of Rose Hill; special life-long friend Joron Wilson of Magnolia; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends that loved Harvey endlessly.

Harvey didn’t live big, he was a simple, hard-working man. He was a special loving and devoted father, father-in-law, granddaddy, brother and friend.  His grandchildren were the apples of his eye. Harvey spent many Saturday nights cutting a rug at Rockfish Country Club and the Moose Lodge, back in the day and always had a good time. He loved KFC, Paul’s Place hot dogs and Chips Ahoy cookies. Harvey never met a stranger and if you knew him, you instantly loved him and had a friend for life.

The family would like to express the love, care and compassion Harvey received from the staff at Cedar Cove Memory Care  of Wilmington. We  appreciate and thank you for everything each of you have done to care for him during his stay. You hold a special place in our hearts.

Harvey will surely be missed by everyone, and his absence will leave a void in our hearts forever. We have comfort knowing that he is wearing his Wranglers, cowboy boots, riding a tractor and planting something in Heaven.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, from 6 to 8pm at Quinn- McGowen Funeral Home in Wallace and other times at Harvey's home in Rose Hill.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 26, 2025 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home at 2pm with Reverend Ricky Wood and Reverend Kevin Williams officiating.

Burial will follow in Fussell Cemetery on Wells Town Road, Rose Hill, NC.
