Hazel Mae Rivenbark, 80, passed peacefully into Glory on Monday, February 16, 2026 at her home surrounded with love.
She was born March 15, 1945 in Pender County the daughter of Herman Jackson Rivenbark and Thenia Jackson Rivenbark. In addition to her parents Hazel was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Nathan Carl Rivenbark; sister, Hilda Southerland; and brother, Martin Rivenbark.
Hazel is survived by her daughter, Tina Scott; stepchildren, Beverly Somberg, Melinda Marshburn (Grady), and Nathan Carl Rivenbark, Jr.; grandson, Trace Kahn-Scott; several step grandchildren; several step great grandchildren; sister, Geneva Grady (Larry); many extended family members and friends.
Hazel was a faithful member of Forest Hills Baptist Church. She loved her church family and her Sunday school class. Hazel was blessed with a love for the Lord and a faith that took her through an extended illness.
Hazel loved the outdoors and all of God’s wonderful world of nature, all plants, flowers, and trees. Until just recently Hazel cut and manicured her yard and her yard flourished under her diligent care. Never idle a minute Hazel was always busy. She enjoyed word puzzles, especially the brick by brick puzzles. Her radiant smile and joy in life will be remembered.
A graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 19, 2026 at Riverview Memorial Park with Micky Easterling conducting the service. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service.
