Heather Leigh Fennell

     Heather Leigh Fennell, age 46, passed from her earthly life Wednesday, December 4, 2024.

     She was born May 31, 1978, in Wilmington. Heather was the beloved daughter of Vernon and Cynthia Rivenbark Fennell; sister to Jason Fennell and his wife, Jaime; aunt to Jasper Fennell and Logan Lorraine Fennell; and granddaughter of Betty L. Rivenbark. Heather also leaves behind many extended family members and friends.

   Heather was a graduate of Pender High School where she was salutatorian of her senior class. Continuing her education at UNC-Wilmington, she obtained a BA degree in education. Heather was an outstanding teacher instilling good study habits in her students. Her first several years of teaching Heather taught in New Hanover County and the remainder of her 24 years teaching six graders in Pender County schools, mainly at Topsail Middle School.

     Heather loved reading and spending time at the beach. Most of all Heather loved her family. She was a beloved daughter, sister, sister-in-law, granddaughter, aunt, and friend. Heather’s untimely leaving our family circle leaves a gigantic hole in our hearts. “Rest in peace our dear, sweet Heather.”

     The family will receive friends 6 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw. 

     Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with Rev. Aaron Swain conducting the service. Entombment will follow in Riverview Memorial Park Mausoleum.
