Jack Russell Richey, Jr., 80, passed from his earthly life to his eternal rest Friday, June 27, 2025 at his home.
He was born June 20, 1945 in Florence, South Carolina, the son of Jack Russell Richey and Edith Eleanor Ainsworth Richey. In addition to his parents Jack was preceded in death by his daughter, Wanda Tritt.
Jack is survived by his daughters, Wendy Noel Richey and her husband, Marc Kuropatwa and Michelle Moore and her husband, Chip; grandchildren, Ashley Clark (Payton), Jay Gibson (Brittany), Timothy Kemp, Brandon Jordan, Kristyn Truett (Travis), Walker Moore (Mackenzie), and Lex Moore (Chaz); nine great grandchildren; caring neighbors and best friends, Ray and Barbara Dawson.
Jack grew up in Florence, SC. After graduating from McClenaghan High School, he joined the US Navy and served with valor in the Vietnam War. He then worked for and retired from Carolina Power & Light Company as a Maintenance Supervisor.
Jack was a loving father who enjoyed spending time with his daughters. He loved to play cards with them, particularly giving his daughters “SkipBo lessons”! He had a variety of interests including boating, fishing, camping, woodworking, and watching detective TV shows & Christmas movies, but most of all he loved spending time with his daughters. He was an avid reader, carving out time to read every day. He was particularly interested in current political non-fiction and loved thrilling, fictional detective books with Rex Stout and Lawrence Sanders among his favorite authors. Jack also enjoyed fantasy novels. Wendy fondly remembers sharing each new Harry Potter book as they got released and going to see the first Harry Potter movie in the theater with her father.
Jack was the kind of person to help anyone in need. He had a soft, kind heart and was a supporter of many charities. He was a huge animal lover and helped many animal rescue groups. Over the years, he rescued multiple senior dogs with medical conditions and helped them have their best Golden Years possible. He was affectionately called a “dog whisperer” and set an amazing example of how to treat and care for them.
Jack was the kind of person who never met a stranger. He was kind to everyone he met and loved to make people feel good. He loved to laugh and enjoyed teasing his daughters lovingly.
Jack was a loyal father and friend with a heart of gold. He will be deeply missed.
