James Adams, Jr. Obituary

James H. (Jay) Adams Jr. of Leland, NC passed away from his earthly life into his eternal life to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus on May 21, 2023. He was born in Wilmington on June 1, 1947 to his parents, the late James and Virginia Batten Adams and graduated high school from NHHS in 1965, and then served in the U.S. Navy.

Jay loved baseball, was a NY Yankees fan and in football he always pulled for the Washington Redskins. He and his good friend, the late Pete Freeman, also coached T-ball and Little League for many years in Leland.

By the grace of God, Jay was saved in 1986 and God used him in many different ministries including mission trips to Poland to build churches.

Jay loved missions and would tell anyone that if God called them to go into the mission field, they should always keep their bags packed. Jay was a long-time member of Long Leaf Baptist and loved teaching and studying his Bible. He and his friend Danny Avant would always talk and share Gods word daily for many years.

Jay was employed with Freeman Concrete of Rocky Point until he retired and the family wishes to say a very special thanks to Mike Freeman, Juanita Freeman, John Herring, Bryan Southerland and the many crews he worked with over the years.

James is survived by the love of his life and best friend on this side of heaven, Brenda Watkins Adams of the home and their fur babies, Bubba and Smokey. Jay also had two daughters, Celissa Stiles (Rick) of Leland and Tracy Williams of Wilmington. Jay had four grandchildren, Sgt Derek Sean Lewis USMC, Kevin Williams of Wilmington, Jessica Stiles (John) and Devan Stiles of Leland; and two great grandchildren, Autumn Rose Parks and Christian James Lewis who he loved greatly and he loved hearing them call him Papa.

Jay also has a sister Marlene Adams and her daughter Nowell Adams, and many other nieces and nephews.

The family would like to say thanks to our Hospice Care team for all the care and love you showed us during this time, Ketari, Audrey, Angela, Jamie and Rachel.

A very special thanks to Jonathan Hines, MD and Crystal Paul, RN. You have both gone above and beyond to help us over the years and you both know how special you are to us.

Jay is now healed and in the presence of his Savior who Softly and Tenderly called him home saying “Well done thou good and faithful servant”

The memorial service will take place at Long Leaf Baptist Church, 317 Shipyard Blvd, Wilmington, NC 28412, on Thursday, May 25 at 2pm with Pastor Joshua Reilly officiating.
