James Batts Obituary

James William Batts has been given rest from mortality and has returned to his Heavenly home.  He departed this life on Friday, June 17, 2022 from his home in Chinquapin.  He was a loving son, brother, uncle, daddy and most importantly Pa to those who loved him so very much.

William was born on October 28, 1924 and was the son of the late Charlie Batts and Beulah Alberta Cole of Chinquapin.  He was predeceased by his wife Hannah Hatcher Batts, son, James Rudy Batts and infant daughter, Barbara Ann Batts, his sisters, Ludie Cavenaugh and Thelma Sholar, sons-in-law, Horace Batchelor and Darrel Rivenbark.

Zion Branch from 1965 to 1970.  During the sixty-one years as a member of the Church, he never doubted the existence of his Savior, Jesus Christ.  He was constantly serving others with every opportunity.

William never met a stranger.  If he did not know you, you were his friend before you parted company.  He was a farmer having raised chickens and turkeys in brooder houses.  He loved planting and harvesting his garden.  William raised hogs and cows to sell and for the family’s needs.  He was employed at J P Stevens for 35 years working his way up to supervisor in Tricot.  After retirement from the mill, he sought other employment and enjoyed working in the Solid Waste Recycling Centers throughout southern Duplin County.

Surviving are his children, Judy Batchelor, Kathy Rivenbark, Susan Adkins and husband, Norman, Mark Batts and wife, Denise; grandchildren, Scott Batchelor and wife, Lynell, Elizabeth Hoxie and husband, Chandler, and Charlie Adkins and wife, Jovonna; great grandchildren, Ashton, Ethan, Cole, and Kendall Batchelor, Ophelia and Oliver Adkins, and Hannah Hoxie.
