James William Guyton

     James William Guyton, age 92, passed gently from his earthly life surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, July 24, 2025 at home. 

     He was born October 23, 1932 in Pender County, the son of James Woodbury Guyton and Katie White Guyton. In addition to his parents James was preceded in death by his wife, Cynthia Ann Pridgen Guyton; granddaughter, Heather Diane Guyton; and brothers, Edward Guyton and Paul Ray Guyton.

     James is survived by his wife, Hazel Elizabeth Thomas Guyton; daughter, June Guyton Neeves (Bill); son, Joseph William Guyton (Ruth); stepchildren, Phyllis Blackwell (Joe), Joyce Bowman (Roger), and Kenneth Bennett; grandchildren, Jennifer Dixon (Bryce), Matthew Neeves (Shannon), and Katie Ann Boyd (Duane); seven great grandchildren; sister, Annie Pearl Woodcock; brother, Joseph Franklin Guyton; many nieces, nephews and friends.

     James served his country honorably in the US Navy. He was a hard worker, was mechanically inclined – could fix most anything, was a good provider for his family, and a faithful friend and helpmate to others. James had a green thumb as was evident by his manicured lawn and his organic garden. Many may remember in years past James worked at the A & P Grocery Store and sold vegetables at Carolina Beach. James was a man of many interests, who loved his family, country and community. He was loved and will be greatly missed.

     Funeral service will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 27, 2025 at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with Jim Holt and Mindy Yule. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the funeral service.
