James Thomas Hudson, age 87, of Harrells passed from this life to his eternal rest on Tuesday, October 12, 2021.
He was born on November 17, 1933 in Sampson County; the son of the late James Clarence and Florence Matthis Hudson. He was also preceded in death by his son, Thomas Ray Hudson and brother, Robert Clarence Hudson.
Surviving to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 67 years, Martha Blackburn Hudson of Harrells; his two daughters, Linda H. Cole and Twylar Harvell (Andy Burchfield), all of Harrells; son, James Allen Hudson (Iris Costin) of Maple Hill; grandchildren, Chuck Cole (Jennifer), Justin Ray Harvell, Allen Dwayne Hudson, Jennifer Hernandez, Collin "Trey" Hudson, Austin Ray Hudson; nine great grandchildren; siblings, Bobbie Anne Jenkins of New Bern and Betty Lou Sykes (LeRoy) of Ivanhoe; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends that loved Thomas dearly.
Thomas was a devoted husband and caring father, grandfather and brother who loved his famiy with all his heart. He was a hard worker and great provider for his wife and children. Thomas lioved "bluegrass" music and he enjoyed going to Bluegrass Festivals. He and Martha loved to travel in their motor home and Thomas always wanted the whole family to go with them. Thomas was an avid fan of tractors and tractor pulls. He won many awards for entering his favorite Allis Chalmers tractor in tractor pulls. Being a licensed contractor, he worked construction for over 50 years. Since retiring, Thomas always kept busy; up to the day he left us. Thomas was a people's person. He loved people and people loved him. He loved to laugh and to make others laugh with him. The last employment Thomas worked was at Builders Discount in Wallace where he enjoyed meeting and talking to customers who became his friend. Thomas will surely be missed but treasured memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
A private family-only graveside service will be held at 11:00a.m. on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at Harrells Cemetery.
