James Gilbert Kahl

On January 24, 2025, James “Jim” Gilbert Kahl, age 82, passed away at home in Wilmington, NC after a lengthy battle with cancer. Born on August 7, 1942, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Gilbert and late Ann Kahl. Beloved husband of Linda (Andia) Kahl. Loving father of John Robert Kahl (Rachael Sinopoli) of Munhall, Steven James Kahl (Melissa) of Crofton, MD and Teresa Diana (Buddy Kinley) of Wilmington, NC. Grandfather of Natalie Ford (Joey), Brandon Kahl (Courtney), Ryan Kahl, Kayleigh Davis (Darek), Emilee Kahl (Ricky Kirchenbauer), Justine Kahl, Andrew Kahl, and beloved “Poppy” to Elaina McKnight. Great-grandfather of Adalynn Kirchenbauer, Noah Kahl, Caden Kahl and Delainey Davis. Brother of the late Robert Kahl and Marjorie (Kahl) Deemer.

Jim was a graduate of South Vocational-Technical High School in Pittsburgh, PA. He was a proud veteran of the Pennsylvania National Guard. He worked in machinist management for 20+ years at Bloom Engineering (PGH PA) and Purolator Facet, Inc. (GSO NC). In the early 1990’s, Jim and Linda moved to Carolina Beach, NC where they owned rental property, ran their own business (Crystal Cleaning and Lawn Care) and enjoyed the southern life. Jim enjoyed golfing, playing cards, and watching the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Jim donated his body to science in the hope of helping others. No formal service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, www.stjude.org.
