James “Jimmy” Floyd Cavanaugh, age 85, of Watha, NC, left his life on earth on Sunday, September 25, 2022 at his home in Watha.
He was born on August 28,1937 in Chinquapin, NC, to the late Willie Nicholson “Nick” Cavanaugh and Junnie Mills Cavanaugh. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Bart, Billy, and Ronnie Cavanaugh and sisters, Dorothy Shivley, Velma Freer, Eloise Mathis and Sarah Russ.
Surviving to cherish his memory is his devoted wife of 63 years, Carrie Mills Cavanaugh; sons, Danny Cavanaugh and wife, Valerie, David Cavanaugh, and Darrell Cavanaugh and wife, Kristie; sisters, Ruth Mabee, Ann Thomas, and Barbara Chaucer (Russell). He was dearly loved by his grandchildren, Courtney (Steven), Hannah, Nicholas “Nick”, and Zoe. He also loved dearly his two great granddaughters, Harper and Bailey.
Mr. Jimmy retired after 35 years of service to the state. In his retirement years, he thoroughly enjoyed hunting and attending sporting events, particularly those of his grandchildren. Jimmy rarely missed an opportunity show someone a picture of his grandkids and great grandkids and tell all about them.
Jimmy loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and is now in his presence forevermore. He was a faithful member of Forest Hills Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with funeral service at 7:00 p.m. Mr. Micky Easterling will conduct the service.
A graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 29, 2022 at Riverview Memorial Park with Mr. Micky Easterling conducting the service.
