Janice Daughtrey Obituary

Janice Elaine Daughtrey, 63, of Currie passed peacefully from her earthly life on Sunday, March 15, 2020 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

She was born March 20, 1956 in Burgaw, the daughter of Odell and Margaret Lewis Daughtrey.  In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death by siblings, Durwood Daughtrey, Everett Earl Daughtrey, Joyce Miller, and Ernest Lee Daughtrey.

Janice is survived by her fiancé, Wayne Cameron; siblings, Barbara Ann Smith, James Albert Daughtrey (Nena), and Frankie Saunders (Louis); brother-in-law, Barry Miller (Shirlyn); sisters-in-law, Kay Daughtrey and Judy Daughtrey; one aunt, Tressie Moore; and many nieces and nephews.

Janice was kindhearted, a hard worker, and an independent lady, who loved her family dearly. She loved the Lord and was a member of Bear Branch Baptist Church. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to others. Her beautiful smile and wonderful spirit will be missed. For many years she lived with her mother Margaret, taking care of each other. But the love of her life would come years later, when she fell head over heels in love with an old flame. Wayne Cameron and Janice had met years before, but at the time the stars didn't align. But when the cosmos was ready, as in any great love affair, fate brought them back together again. And it turned into a love that was boundless and eternal. A wedding was in their two hearts’ future. But Janice’s illness sadly prevented their joyous day from happening. With all this, the unending love remained with a loyalty and commitment rarely seen, with Wayne staying every night at NHRMC and countless days. Between Wayne and Janice’s sister Frankie Mae, they managed to grant every wish that Janice had previously thrust upon them, that she wanted to live regardless of the fight she knew was ahead of her. Janice passed peacefully with Wayne holding one hand and Janice’s sisters Barbara and Frankie Mae holding the other hand. With no human deeds making the call, just exactly like Janice wanted, Janice has reached the majesty of Heaven, she’s grown her wings, and she is now in the loving arms of our Lord.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 20, 2020 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw with The Rev. Mitchell Cameron and The Rev. Doug Fairfax conducting the service. Burial will follow in Moores Creek Baptist Church Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her parents and siblings.
