Jean-Marie Bernice (Skinner) Bates

Jean-Marie Skinner Bates, 56, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Center in Wilmington.

Jean was born on September 22, 1968, in Framington, MA, to the late Cecil Coy Skinner and the late Elaine J. Skinner.

Jean was a free spirit and had many talents. She had a beautiful voice and loved music. She played the flute and guitar. Jean was not afraid to get on stage and sing! She loved to knit and crochet and made many beautiful things. She also loved to ride horses. Jean will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her son, Evan Taylor (Rachel Woodcock), her granddaughters, Karli Taylor, Ellie-Marie Borton; her brother, Mark Skinner; her sister, Shelley Southerland (Michael); very special friend, Janice Sessoms; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Jean was also preceded in death by her daughter, Alexandria Borton; and her brothers, Jeffrey B. Skinner and Joseph W. Skinner.

The family would like to thank her church family and the wonderful staff at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Center and especially nurse Nicole.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Foundation.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Pine Valley Church of Christ in Wilmington with Brother Phil Stapp officiating.
