A kind and gentle soul, a gracious and loving lady, Jo Ann Williams James, entered eternal rest on Friday, August 27, 2021 at the age of 85. She was born July 11, 1936 in Burgaw where she lived many years of her wonderful life. Jo Ann was daughter of Samuel "Snookie" Lee Williams, Jr. and Vilma Alice Erdei Williams. In addition to her parents, Jo Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, William “Billy” Cleveland James.
Jo Ann is survived by the family that she loved so dearly: her son, William “Bill” C. James, Jr and wife, Joy Russ James; her daughter, Lee Ann James Franks and husband, Paul; grandchildren, Kristin James Wells (William) and their children, Madison, Jackson and James; Beth Parker (Brandon) and their daughters, Georgia Ann and Caroline; Daniel Franks (Ashley) and their children, Emma Grace, Jacob, and Jarrett; sister, Virginia “Ginger” Williams; numerous nieces and nephews; and life long best friends, Mary Jane Lanier and Elizabeth Herring.
She was a faithful and devoted member of Westview UMC.
Jo Ann’s journey on earth was well lived. Her years were filled with an abiding love of the Lord, spending time with family she so adored (Grandma to grandchildren and Gigi to great grandchildren) and giving freely to all she came in contact with. Jo Ann was a lover of people, no matter of their circumstances. Her vivacious personality, positive outlook on life, and radiant smile brought light and joy to many. Loving the beach, Jo Ann along with her beach guests was a true shell seeker. Another passion in life was Jo Ann’s bridge group and oh how those ladies enjoyed laughter and cards. Jo Ann’s passing leaves empty place in our family circle and in our hearts.
A graveside service will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 30, 2021 at Burgaw Cemetery where Jo Ann will be laid to rest beside her beloved Billy. Pastor Sherry Coombs and Mrs. Judy Jeremias will conduct the service.
A special thanks to Ann Carter and Myra Eakins for the exceptional care that they gave to Jo Ann for the past several years.
