Joanne Van Haviaras died in hospice on August 20, 2023 at age 89. She suffered from Alzheimer's and recently from pneumonia and heart issues.
Joanne was born June 9, 1934 in Sampson County, NC to Clem C. Vann and Louise Merritt Vann. She is survived by her only child Debbie Haviaras Duncan.
Joanne married James J. Haviaras from Allentown, PA, November 25, 1955. They then lived in Allentown for several years before moving to Wilmington, NC in 1964 where they remained. Joanne worked with Jim in several family businesses. Later in life, she studied to be a CNA and started a new career working for EIder Care and became one of their most requested home caregivers. Her career came easily to her because she had always been known as the extended family and friend caregiver.
The family would like to thank the staff at Paraklay Way at Trinity Grove and Lower Cape Fear Hospice for all of their care and kindness.
