John David Cavenaugh, age 85, of Northeast Community, Wallace, NC left this earthly life on Monday, May 25, 2020, to be forever with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
He was born on April 17, 1935, in Duplin County; the son of the late Isaiah and Florence Cavenaugh. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Aubrey Cavenaugh and Vergie Proffitt.
Mr. Cavenaugh was a life-long member of Northeast Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church where he served throughout the years as Deacon, Assistant Sunday School Superintendent and on the Board of Trustees. He loved his Lord and his church very much.
Surviving to cherish his memory is his best friend and devoted wife of 66 years, Doris Long Cavenaugh of the home; his loving children, James David Cavenaugh and wife, Maria of Teachey, Deborah C. Coombs and husband, Tommy of Warsaw, Bobby Wayne Cavenaugh and wife, Anita of Wallace, Sheila C. Young and husband, Roy of Teachey and Angela C. Cottle and husband, Mac of Wallace; grandchildren, Walt Coombs and wife Kris, Jennifer Knowles and husband, Casey, Tiffiany Cassell and husband, Shane, Leigh Ann Coombs, Johnathan Cavenaugh and wife, Chenara, Callie C. Miller and husband, Chris, Lindsey Young and fiance', Chris and Deborah A. Cavenaugh and fiance', Matt; great grandchildren, Addie and Eva Coombs, Levi and Jack Knowles, Landon and John Lukas Cavenaugh, Hannah Perry, Massey and Olivia Cassell; siblings, Bertie Gilbert of Rose Hill, Annie Pearl Bray of Wallace, Ray Cavenaugh and wife, Mary Lou of Wallace and Aaron Cavenaugh and wife, Jennie of Wallace; special friend, Letha Teachey and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends that loved John David dearly.
John David was a loving husband and caring father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was a true family man and a great provider for his family. With an outgoing personality, John David never met a stranger and would give the shirt off his back to any one in need of it. He loved to laugh and make others laugh. After retiring, John David found a new pleasure in woodcraft building bird houses. He loved the mountains and its beauty of God's wonderful creation. He was a farmer by trade but more than that; John David was a man of great integrity who loved his Lord and had a deep relationship with his God. He leaves behind a great Christian legacy for his children, family and friends. John David will surely be missed but treasured memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Graveside service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at Cavenaugh Family Cemetery, Wallace, NC.
Due to Covid-19, there will not be a visitation at the funeral home. However, Mr. Cavenaugh will be available for viewing between the hours of 1:00pm and 4:00pm on Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial gifts be send to Northeast PFW Baptist Church, General Fund, 129 Hanchey Road, Wallace, NC 28466.
