John Wesley McCormick

John Wesley McCormick, age 88, of Wilmington, NC passed away on September 4, 2023, at his homeplace surrounded by his family.

He was born on April 8, 1935, in Dillon, SC to the late John Wesley McCormick and Hedy Mae Bryd McCormick.

John served his country honorably in the US Army during the Korean War.  As a decorated soldier he earned several medals including multiple purple hearts.  After serving in the military, he made his home in Wilmington, NC.  John was truly a man of God keeping his faith first and foremost in raising his family.   He loved his family with his whole heart always teaching them to do what is right and showing by example. And all he wanted is for everyone to know Jesus.

John is survived by his children, Wesley “Randy” McCormick, Deonna Jacques, and John K. McCormick and wife Melissa; grandchildren, Jane McCormick, Kristen McCormick, Cassandra McCormick, Courtney McCormick, Alex Clark and wife Heather, Tosha Ramsey, Gracie Cox and husband Michael, Lydia McCormick Bonds and husband Spencer, Russell Vicks and Brittany Vicks; nine great grandchildren; brother, John B. McCormick and wife Joanne; sister, Bobbi B. Holt, and brothers-in-law, Edwin Flowers and Earl Flowers.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley F. McCormick; and son, Kem W. McCormick.

Pallbearers will be John K. McCormick, Spencer E. Bonds, Russell R. Vicks, Donnie R. Causey, Michael A. Cox, and Jimmy D. Smith.

A visitation with family will be held on Friday, September 8, 2023 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Wrightsville Beach Baptist Church, 601 Causeway Drive, Wrightsville Beach, NC 28480. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 9:00am at Wrightsville Beach Baptist Church, 601 Causeway Drive, Wrightsville Beach, NC 28480 with Pastor John McIntrye officiating. Burial will follow the service at Oleander Memorial Gardens in Wilmington, NC.
