Hard to believe time caught up with Johnny after living 81 years filled with many great adventures. He was born March 25, 1943, in Wilmington, the son of Thurston C. Davis and Mable Annette Haney Davis. Johnny met his maker on Saturday morning , August 17, 2024, at home in Kelly. Many remember Johnny living in Azle, Texas where he lived before moving back to North Carolina.
Johnny lived a great life. He played in TV shows – Yellowstone, 1883, Bass Reeves, and Twisters. He was talented in doing leather work, which he made many items for other people. In his younger years Johnny was a sought-after farrier as he was an expert in shoeing horses. Johnny loved riding and showing his horses, passing this love of horses to his daughter. Johnny enjoyed going to watch his son ride bulls and riding horses bareback in rodeos. When grandson Justin came along and grew of age, he decided to follow in Uncle Michael’s footsteps riding bulls. Justin would spend summers with Johnny, traveling to places in Texas. Justin loved watching granddaddy ride. Johnny enjoyed spending time with granddaughter, Madison, and started teaching her leather works. Johnny had two granddaughters, Cheyenne Antrican and Madison Hinson; one grandson, Justin Antrican (deceased); two children, Michael Davis and Jessica Hinson (Matthew); one brother, Thurston Davis (Becky); many extended family members and friends. Most of all Johnny loved his family. Johnny’s presence in our lives will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Centerville Baptist Church with Rev. Allen Murray conducting the service.
