Joseph Stewart Sheridan

Joseph S. Sheridan, 64, of Wilmington, NC passed away January 26, 2020 at NHRMC after suffering a heart attack.

Joe was born January 18, 1956 in New Haven, Connecticut to the late Clement and Helen (McDonough) Sheridan. Joe married Renee Klug Mastny on December 29, 1986.
Joe grew up in Cold Springs Harbor, NY. He attended Sullivan Community College in upstate New York. After college Joe worked in the cable TV industry which led to an opportunity in 1983 to be among the first 50 people trained in fiber optics at one of MCIs first fiber training facilities in Texas. After fiber optic training Joe worked for MCI installing the first fiber network in the country from Miami to New York.

In 1991 Joe started PTD Communications Technology, a fiber splicing company. Over the years Joe was a prime splicing contractor for many of the telephone, cable TV and utility companies splicing thousands of miles of fiber all over the country. Joe even worked at NASA. He was a prime splicing contractor for Time Warner/Spectrum for over 20 years in Raleigh, Wilmington and surrounding areas.

Joe enjoyed meeting people during his work related travel which led to many lasting friendships around the country. Joe enjoyed spending time at the beach, on his boat and at the farm in Nebraska. He loved time at the beach with relatives, training nieces and nephews how to surf and teaching everyone how to enjoy the beach. In his work related travels with Renee and beloved dog Petie, they always took the time to frequent the antique stores and try small town cafes where Joe never failed to visit with anyone he met.

Joe is survived by his spouse, Renee, Wilmington, NC; son, Chad Mastny of Raleigh, NC: daughter, Rebecca Mastny, Austin, TX; grandchildren, Reagan and Tyler Mastny; brother, Robert “Bob” Sheridan; sister, Mary Kim Lyon (John); and many nieces, nephews and relatives.

A celebration of life will be held Sunday, February 9, 2020 from 1:30-4:30 pm at the Highlander Club at Castle Bay Country Club in Hampstead, NC.

A memorial service will be held for Joe in Nebraska at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorials for Joe may be made to Renee at 1867 Scott’s Hill Loop Road, Wilmington, NC for family choice or to assist with Joe’s medical bills.
