Julie Hieronymus Obituary

Look up there...she's in Heaven. Julia Carol Adkins Hieronymus, 58, went peacefully to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 1st, 2020, surrounded by her loving family and care team.

Julie was born in Burlington, NC to Jim and Susie Adkins.  After graduating from UNCW in 1986 where she earned degrees in English and Psychology, Julie had fallen in love with the beach and her future husband, George, and decided to call Wilmington her home.  She raised a beloved family and held a technical writing career that lasted over 30 years.  While she lived in Wilmington until her passing, Julie's favorite city to spend time in was London.

In addition to the coast, Julie enjoyed family get-togethers, her granddaughter, Ava, who she adored, NC State Wolfpack, participating in the Wilmington film industry as an extra multiple times, British history, music of the 60's, 70's and 80's - Jammin' 99.9 forever on her radio - reading books (particularly about her favorite artists, David Bowie, Pink Floyd and Paul McCartney), and ravaging Harris Teeter shelves with her coupon expertise.

Leaving behind a legacy of kindness, patience and positivity, Julie handled life's challenges with graceful resilience. Despite bearing four bouts of cancer and eventually a terminal diagnosis of ALS, she held hope in her heart, wore a bright smile on her face and kept those around her in constant laughter.  She never gave up or changed her selfless, kind demeanor.  And never once strayed from her faith.  She left this earth as Hurricane Isaias was approaching. The name means "God is my Salvation".

Julie is preceded in death by her husband, George Hieronymus and father, Jim Adkins. She is survived by her children, Hunter Hieronymus of Wilmington, NC and Magge Hieronymus of Long Beach, CA; granddaughter Ava Hieronymus of Hampstead, NC; mother, Susie Adkins of Wilmington, NC; sister, Ginny Rogan of Wilmington, NC; lifelong best friends, Gina Stone, of Burlington, NC and cousin, Jeannie Cottle Melville of Harrells, NC and her extended family of wonderful nieces , nephews, cousins, and in-laws.

A memorial service will be held this Wednesday, August 12, on the lawn at Watha United Methodist Church at 10:00am, 160 Camp Kirkwood Rd., Watha, NC.  Lawn chairs are welcome.
