Katelyn "Katie" Hope Mathews

     Katelyn “Katie” Hope Mathews, age 23, left her earthly life way too soon leaving a big empty place in our hearts, in our family and in her wide circle of friends. She passed away Thursday, February 27, 2025, at home.

     She was born on February 7, 2002, in Wilmington and graduated from Pender High School in Burgaw. In her younger school years Katie enjoyed dance (all kinds) and playing volleyball and softball.

     Katie loved sunshine and all things beautiful- gardening, watching flowers bloom and grow; was an avid lover of all animals, especially Maggie; the beach, ocean and waves. Katie was blessed with a witty personality and was a friend to many. She was always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. Most of all Katie loved her family and she was dearly loved in return.

     Katie was the beloved daughter of Greg Mathews and April Andrews Laughter and her husband, Ricky; sister of Haley Mathews and Robert Mathews; and granddaughter of Cynthia Andrews. Katie had many aunts, uncles, great aunts, great uncles, cousins, and many friends. Not to be forgotten is her fur buddy lab, Maggie.   

     The memorial service will be 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with Pastor Mike Morley conducting the service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service.

         To our many friends we, Katie’s family, would like to thank you for every kindness shown…prayers, visits, cards, flowers and genuine expressions of concern.  We thank God, our Heavenly Father, for the gift of friends and pray His eternal blessings to all.
