Obituary

Kathy Batts Rivenbark, age 77, of Wallace passed from this life to her eternal rest on Sunday, May 3, 2026.

She was born on February 28, 1949, in Duplin County; the daughter of the late James William and Hannah Garland Hatcher Batts.  Kathy was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 25 years Darrel Lee Rivenbark, Sr.; her brother James Rudy Batts and two sisters Barbara Ann Batts and Susan Batts Adkins.

Kathy was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  She was employed as a secretary of James Sprunt Community College for over 30 years.

Surviving to cherish her memory is her sister Judy Batts Batchelor of Durham; her brother Mark Batts and wife Denise of Grifton; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends that loved Kathy dearly.

Kathy was a loving sister, aunt and friend who loved her family with all her heart.  She was a great cook who enjoyed making a big pot of spaghetti and sharing it with others.  Kathy had many recipes for casseroles in which she was great at making them.  She was an avid animal lover, especially dogs and would rescue animals whenever the opportunity arose.  Kathy never had children of her own, but she loved her pets as if they were her children.   She was a very independent lady who loved doing things her way.  Kathy was very dedicated to her career at James Sprunt.  She was the glue that held her department together and was the go-to person if you had a problem or needed something.  Kathy was always willing to help others and she would assist the teachers by substituting for them if they could not be in class. Kathy's favorite time was family gatherings on Sunday or holidays.  She enjoyed every minute she spent with her family.  She will surely be missed but treasured memories of her will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved Kathy.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 7, 2026 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Wallace Chapel with Elder Norman Adkins officiating.

Burial will follow the funeral service in Riverview Memorial Park in Watha.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
