Larry Earl Henderson, 77, of Burgaw passed gently from his earthly life Friday, February 19, 2021 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness.
He was born May 7, 1943 in Durham County, the son of Earl Henderson, Nannie Dixon Lambert, and Hershey Hipps. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by siblings, Jack Henderson, Charles Henderson and Carolyn Ottarski.
Larry is survived by his wife of 56 years, Kay Herring Henderson; Mama, Ada Lee Hipps; daughters, Sonia Hayes (Bobby), Laurie Morrison (Craig), and Sabrina Lewis (James ); eight grandchildren, Kayla, Summer, and Krysia Hayes, Bailey and Brayden Morrison, Isiac, Noah, and Titus Lewis; a great grandson due at any time; brothers, Chip Henderson, and Rigg Hipps; sisters, Paulette Harper, Sandra Harrelson, and Kitty Carter; many nieces, nephews and extended family.
In 2016 Larry retired from the NC Department of Agriculture, Plant Industry Division having served in the position as State IFA Coordinator. Earlier in his career Larry was owner and operator of Henderson Hardware in Burgaw.
Larry was a faithful member of Burgaw Baptist Church, King Solomon Lodge No. 138 A.F. & A.M., Scottish Rite Freemasonry-32nd degree, and Sudan Shriners.
As long as his health allowed, Larry was an avid hunter and spent much time teaching his grandchildren hunting techniques and safety. He loved gardening, maintaining his deer plot, and especially his time in the RTV and on the farm tractor. He enjoyed traveling anywhere across the US with family. Larry was a diligent worker: loved God, Family, and Country.
In an effort to remain safe during this time of the COVID-19 crisis, Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at Riverview Memorial Park officiated by Rev. Craig Morrison, Rev Frank Seamster, and Rev. Tom Canady (read by Betty Smith).
Masonic Rites will be accorded by King Solomon Lodge No. 138 A.F. & A.M.
The family will have a time of visiting at the cemetery following the service.
