Lawson Rodney Davis, Jr.

Lawson Rodney Davis, Jr., 78, of Burgaw, North Carolina, passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in Wilmington.

He was born on March 24, 1947, in Lexington, North Carolina, to the late Lawson Rodney Davis, Sr. and the late Betty Marie Cashwell.

Rodney was a former Marine, loyal friend, devoted husband, amazing father and the world’s best papa. After the Marines, where he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, Rodney went to work for Food Town, now known as Food Lion, as a regional supervisor. He then spent many years in management with Harris Teeter before working in pharmaceutical validation with GCMP Validation for over 25 years. Rodney was an avid golfer and especially enjoyed golfing with his grandson, Caleb. He liked to fish, bowl, have cookouts and spend time with family and friends.

Rodney is survived by his beloved wife, Loretta Sue Davis; daughter, Jennifer Hall and her husband, Deric; granddaughter, Macie Caroline Hall; grandson, Caleb Bryce Hall; sister, Cyndi Skeen and her husband, Freddie; aunt, Donese Comer McBride, special friends, Jesse and Laura Gillikin with whom he loved to travel; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who he loved dearly.

A funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home in Wilmington with Rev. Danny Leonard officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at 12:00 p.m. at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home. Burial will follow the service at Oleander Memorial Gardens with the United States Marine Corps performing Military Honors.
