Linda Williams Harris, 76, died Wednesday, January 22, 2020.
She was born February 6, 1943 in Currie, NC, daughter of the late George Whitley and Edith “Edie” Porter Williams.
Linda is survived by her husband, Landon A. Harris; sister, Sally Miller; niece, Melissa Miller; nephew, Patrick Miller; great niece, Angelique House and great nephew, Austin Miller; aunt, Ann Porter; and a host of cousins.
Linda graduated from Long Creek Grady School and attended Campbell College now Campbell University. She worked for the honorable Ashley Murphy in the NC Legislature; worked at NC State College in the Plant Pathology Department and for the next 20 years as assistant to Chancellor John T. Caldwell. Upon Chancellor Caldwell’s retirement, Linda continued to work in Raleigh for Chancellor Joab Thomas. When Chancellor Thomas returned as President at the University of Alabama Linda went with him as his assistant. Upon moving to Myrtle Beach, Linda worked in the front office of North Myrtle Beach High School where she was loved by staff and students. Linda had many jobs, but none as special as her years at NC State. She sang the NC State fight song at many university events, even after moving to Myrtle Beach. She was a Wolf Packer to the end. Linda dealt with health issues for the past ten years and was a cancer survivor. In the end it was Linda’s desire to join her mama and daddy. She will be greatly missed by her family and close friends.
The family will receive friends 2 to 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 25, 2020 at McMillan-Small Funeral Home in Myrtle Beach, SC.
The family will receive friends 2 to 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 26, 2020 at Moores Creek Baptist Church, 3107 Union Chapel Road, Currie, NC 28435 with service at 3:00 p.m. Pastor Roger Barnes will conduct the service.
Burial will follow in Moore’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
