Lorraine Weaver McDowall, 91, of Hampstead passed gently from her earthly life Thursday, November 19, 2020 at Stonebridge at Woodberry Wellness.
She was born October 27, 1929 in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of Aaron D. and Emelie Barnett Weaver. In addition to her parents Lorraine was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, Robert Terence McDowell, who died in 2007.
Lorraine is survived by her Blakes Chapel Advent Christian Church family that she dearly loved. It is noted that Lorraine was an excellent Sunday school teacher: she taught for many years. She was also active in Woman’s Home and Foreign Mission Auxiliary.
Lorraine was a lady full of love, energy and laughter who lived a long and fulfilled life. For over 20 years she and her husband were professional dancers. She toured with the USO in the far East following the Korean Conflict. She was an avid golf player and excellent at cross stitching, making many beautiful items. Her 91 years were well lived, full of joy and giving.
Graveside service will be 12:30 p.m. Monday, November 23, 2020 at Blakes Chapel Advent Christian Church Cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband. Pastor Edward Dowd will conduct the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to Liberty Hospice, 420 Eastwood Road, Unit 102, Wilmington, NC 28403 or to the charity of one’s choice.
