Louis "Buzz" Henry Sawyer, Sr.

Louis “Buzz” Henry Sawyer, Sr., 81, of Wilmington, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at his home.

He was born on September 3, 1943, in Burgaw, to the late Arthur and Norma Rowe Sawyer.

A man of great faith and service, Louis was deeply involved in his church community, often seen volunteering for various charitable activities. His commitment to the sheriff's department was unwavering, and he was admired for his dedication and integrity. Louis had an adventurous spirit and found immense joy in riding his beloved BMW motorcycle, exploring the scenic routes of North Carolina. His generosity knew no bounds; he was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, embodying the true essence of compassion and selflessness.

Louis is survived by his loving wife, Mary Glass Sawyer; his son, Louis “Lou” Henry Sawyer, Jr. (Erin) of Carolina Beach; his daughter, Jennifer Sawyer Brunson of Rocky Point; grandchildren, Dylan, Casey, Cassidy, Elle, Aspen, Ireland and Bryce; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his parents, Louis was also preceded in death by his first wife, Judy Kelly Sawyer; his daughter, Judith Louise Sawyer; his brother, Rowe Sawyer; and his sister, Ann Sawyer.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sheriff’s Office Community Services account, checks payable to New Hanover County, in honor of “Buzz”, mail to NHC Sheriff’s Office 3950 Juvenile Center Road, Castle Hayne, NC 28429.

All are invited to join the family for a Celebration of Buzz’s life to be held at 11:00 am on February 15, 2025 at Pine Valley Methodist Church, Wilmington, NC with Reverend Barry Stallings officiating.
