A kind and gentle soul, a gracious and loving lady, Lucille Lanier, entered her eternal rest on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at the age of 91. She was born January 12, 1930 to Alexander Moir Flinchum and Josie Priddy Flinchum, living most of her wonderful life in Burgaw.
In addition to her parents, Lou was preceded in death by her husband, Maxie J. Lanier, Sr.; son, Thomas Capps III; and daughter, Karen Lanier.
Lou is survived by her children, Willard “Billy” Capps, Jr. and wife, Cynthia, Teresa Milam and husband, Jay, Jerome Lanier and wife, Cindy, Maxine Norris and husband, Lewis, and Deborah Marshall and husband, Leroy; grandchildren, Rhonda Norris, Mandy Leary (Kenny), Adam Lanier (Alex), Kelly Rosado, Brooke Flippin, Justin Milam (Ashley), and Courtney Milam; seven great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; sisters, Peggy Wells (Bobby) and Ange Futrelle; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
For many years, she was a faithful active member of Westview United Methodist Church
Lou was a lady of uncommon character, beauty and grace. It has been said Lou was “an instrument of God’s love on this earth.” Loving all of God’s gifts of nature and especially flowers, Lou was a member of Burgaw Garden Club. Enjoying her many friends, at one time in life she was a member of five bridge clubs. Most of all Lou loved and served her family. When her grandchildren visited her eyes danced and her beautiful smile grew bigger. Lou’s sweet, sweet spirit is a lasting legacy to those who knew and loved her.
The family will receive friends 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 30, 2021 at Westview United Methodist Church with funeral service beginning at 12:00 p.m. with Mrs. Judy Jeremias conducting the service. Following the service there will be a reception in the church fellowship hall where all are welcome.
A private family interment will be at Riverview Memorial Park.
