Lula Carlyle

March 29, 1934 – April 1, 2022
Mrs. Lula "Lou" Carlyle Morton, 88, entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior Friday afternoon, April 1, 2022, at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice LifeCare Center. Though our hearts ache at our loss, we are confident she is safely Home and walking with Jesus. She was very passionate about her Savior.
Lula was born March 29, 1934, in LaGrange, N.C. to Samuel and Lula Carter Carlyle.
Lula was married to Edwin Lee Morton in 1951. They were married for 63 years before Edwin's passing in 2014. They were faithful members of Northside Church. Lula did in-home childcare for forty-five years. She enjoyed cleaning and cooking, especially collards and cornbread.
Lula is survived by their three children, Mattie Lynn of Bradenton, Fla., Joyce Strickland of Leland, N.C. and Glenn (Lorri) Morton of Wilmington, N.C.; grandchildren: Duane (Leanne) Coston, Steve (Karen) Coston, Crystal Hickman, James (Racheal) Williams and Aarron Morton. Great-grandchildren: Gabriel, Alysia, Isabelle, Zoe, Austin, Carlie, Sofia, Bubba, James, Charlie, Darren and Anna; 1 brother-in-law, James E. Cunningham, Sr.; many cousins, nieces, nephews and special friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, father, mother, five sisters, one brother, five half-sisters, one half-brother.
The family will receive friends for visitation from 11:00 – 12:00 on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at Northside Church, 2501 North College Road, Wilmington, N.C. The funeral service honoring Lula will be immediately following at 12:00. Pastor Kenny Chinn and Pastor Rob Strickland will officiate. There will be a graveside service at Greenlawn Cemetery following the service.
Pallbearers will be Andy Chinn, Al Corbett, Jamie Godsey, Dempsey Howard, Austin Strickland, and James Williams.
A special thanks to the staff and care team at Wilmington Health, Novant Hospital and the Lower Cape Fear Hospice LifeCare Center.
