Margaret Courtney Obituary

Margaret Hiles Courtney of Brunswick County, NC, was escorted by angels to her heavenly home on September 23, 2019, at the age of 82. She loved the Lord and while visiting, you could hear her talking with Him in the days before she gently passed away. “Be still, and know that I am God”, Psalm 46:10 was one of the verses she quoted before she left this world. He said "I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee," Hebrews 13:5 was the last that she was able to say audibly.

Margaret was born August 30, 1937 in Lexington, Kentucky, to the late Marion and Florida Hiles. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, William B. Courtney, brothers, Marion Jr., Arthur and Roy Hiles and sisters, Helen Vittito, Linda Fogle and Edith Mae Naylor.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Michael Courtney (Pauline), Deborah Sykes (Dean), Eric Courtney and Melissa Courtney, as well as 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter, a sister, Betty Ford and brothers, Charlie and Ron Hiles.

Margaret was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Lumberton, NC and loved the members there so much. The family would like to thank them all for their prayers, visits and gifts for so many years.

A quiet, loving Christian lady, Margaret was a great cook and enjoyed shopping trips and especially music. Although she loved so many, her most favorite song was “He Hideth My Soul”. When she was singing, you knew she was having a great day.

The family would like to thank Brunswick County Lower Cape Fear Hospice LifeCare Center for their excellent care during her stay. They would also like to thank the multitude of volunteers who provided food and support to all the Hospice families. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Brunswick County Lower Cape Fear Hospice would greatly be appreciated.

A private graveside service will be held at Cape Fear Baptist Church in Riegelwood, NC. Rev. Doug Fairfax will officiate.
