Mark Shannon Covil, Sr., 51, Division Fire Chief with Pender EMS & Fire passed away too soon from his earthly life on August 30, 2021 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
He was born February 3, 1970 in Wilmington to “Bebe” Vera Ann Covil and Ellis Marion Covil, Jr.
In addition to his parents, Mark is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Janice “Denise” Covil; sons, Mark Shannon Covil, Jr., Johnathan Edward Covil, and Bradley Kenneth Jones (Olivia); daughter, Brittney Kent Shaw; grandchildren, Hayden Bradley Jones and Maxston Daniel Shaw; sister, Sarah Hollis (Gary) and their children, Oliver Hollis, Christopher Chestnut, Megan Mason, and Ashli Fowler; sister, Kristi Poole (Jordan) and their children, Laney, Lucas, and Ainsley; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and friends.
Though Mark’s earthly life came to completion much too soon and with little warning, his spirit continues to radiate much brighter. He accomplished much in his 51 years: 36 years with Fire Department, beginning as a volunteer in high school and rising to rank of Division Fire Chief of Pender EMS & FIRE at the time of his passing. Everyone needs stress free time and Mark found his hunting in God’s beautiful world of nature. He truly enjoyed the fellowship of fellow hunters and loved his time with Rose Hill Hunting Club.
Mark was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and was a man of faith, honor and courage, always working for the betterment of his community. Mark’s love of the Lord was seen each day in his character. His praise and prayers were done daily with love and Passion and he always ended his prayers with “I Thank You and I Love You, Amen.”
If Mark could speak today, he would say, “A man is blessed to have a loving family, faithful friends, and a rewarding career.”
His Lord said unto him, “Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord.” Matthew 25:23.
The family will receive friends at 1:30 p.m. Friday, September 10, 2021 at Scotts Hill Baptist Church, 185 Scotts Hill Loop Road, Wilmington, NC until hour of the service.
Funeral service will be Friday, September 10, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at Scott’s Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Tom Male officiating. Casketbearers and honor guard will be Pender EMS & FIRE personnel.
Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Park.
