Marlene (Robinson) Blake

     Marlene Robinson Blake, age 91, a kindhearted lady filled with grace, goodness, and thoughtfulness of others passed gently from her earthly life on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in Wilmington.

     She was born July 14, 1932 in Onslow County, the daughter of George Louis and Julia Fonville Robinson. In addition to her parents Marlene was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Spencer Blake; and her brother, George Marvin Robinson.

     Marlene is survived by her sister-in-law, Launa Robinson; and many special friends who enabled Marlene to live in her own home as she grew older, which was her heart’s desire.

     In 1950 Marlene graduated from Burgaw High School and continued her education at James Walker Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1953. While a student she was chosen as “Miss James Walker” by fellow students by popular vote as she represented her class as an ideal student, nurse and friend as well as a loyal, intelligent, and beautiful young woman. Marlene worked in Labor and Delivery at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, and she remembered that she delivered two sets of triplets before the doctor arrived. At the age of 55 Marlene graduated from UNCW with a BS degree in Nursing. In her later nursing years Marlene worked at Cape Fear Memorial Hospital. What an outstanding nurse Marlene was!

     Marlene was a longtime active member of Herrings Chapel Methodist Church where she shared her love of music by singing in the choir.

     A graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at Burgaw Cemetery with The Rev. William Hill Pearsall conducting the service. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service.

     A special heartfelt thank you to all who fulfilled Marlene’s heart’s desire to stay in her own home.
