Martha Kay (Shepard) Beacham

May 19, 2022

Martha Kay Shepard Beacham of Leland passed peacefully from her earthly life Thursday, May 19. 2022 at Novant Medical New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Wilmington, the daughter of Walter Frederick Shepard and Meda Morton Shepard.

Martha is survived by her husband, Edward F. Beacham; daughters, Debbie Krause and her husband, Dean and Beverly McKeithan and her husband, Michael; grandchildren, Justin Krause (Amber), Brian Krause (Ali), Jay McKeithan, Bobby McKeithan, Jenny Speaker (Joe) and Brandy McKeithan; twenty great grandchildren, step-children, Edward F. Beacham, Jr. (Candi), Richard D. Beacham (Angela), Vicki Beacham, and Mark F. Beacham (Angela);  many other extended family members and dear friends.

She was a long time faithful member of First Baptist Church of Leland and in recent years was a member of Riley’s Creek Baptist Church.

Martha was an extraordinary lady of God whose resounding faith and love for family was unmatched. Her brightly shining light often served as a guide to those around her. Those that knew Martha will always remember her passion for growing beautiful flowers-vegetables, cooking for those she loved, caring for her horses, and her love of God’s nature in the outdoors. In years past Martha was even known to ride a Harley motorcycle. She helped physically to build a house, even laying some brick. Martha was a collector of folks, making people of no blood kin feel like family. She was a true example of what it meant to be a Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, and Friend. Her presence in our lives will be forever missed but we find solace in knowing she is at peace and rejoicing with her Almighty Father.

The family will receive friends 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 29, 2022 in the Fellowship Hall of Riley’s Creek Baptist Church with memorial service beginning at 3:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary. The Rev. Art Sauer will conduct the service.

     Martha’s favorite scripture was:

What shall we say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? Romans 8:31
