Martha Johnson Rooks

     A kind and gentle soul, a gracious and loving lady, Martha Johnson Rooks, of Rocky Point passed gently from her earthly life at the age of 87 on Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

     She was born May 20, 1933 in Pender County, the daughter of the late John Wesley Johnson and Ethel Lee Woodcock Johnson. Also remembered are her sisters, Inez Covil, Addie Mae Horrell, Kay Jordan and Emily Johnson; brothers, Leroy Johnson and Frank Johnson; son-in-law, Michael Lunsford; former husband, Lewis Rooks; and dear friend, Bobby Justice, all who loved Martha.

     Martha is survived by her devoted daughters, Cammy Bloodworth (Kelly), Mary Ann Wells (Randy), Susan Lunsford, Penny Brown (Jason), and Pamela Sue Rooks (Kenny); grandchildren, Benny Bloodworth (Renee), Lyndsey Buchanan (Duane), Melisa Giacoman, (Kraig), Melinda Lippard (Jacob), Jeffrey Lunsford (Erin), Jordan Lunsford, and Amber Jones (Cory); 15 great grandchildren; two great-great grandsons; sister, Nellie Heirs; and many cherished nieces and nephews.

     Martha was the BEST MAMA, Grandma, Maw, sister, aunt and friend anyone could ask for. She found great joy in the simplest of things, but her greatest joy was family.  Being a gifted seamstress, Martha sewed men’s suits, her own clothes and her daughter’s clothing. She enjoyed crafts, quilting, covering and refinishing furniture. She loved  all of God’s creations including her flowers and vegetable garden. She was active in her church through the years and was blessed with a love for the Lord and a faith that took her  through an extended illness. Martha’s family is grateful to God for her life, for your friendship and for your kindness and prayers.       

      A graveside service will be 11:00 am, Saturday June 20, 2020 at Woodcock Cemetery with Rev. Ken Smith officiating.
