Martha (Decker) Soules

     Martha Decker Soules went to her heavenly home on Monday, December 28, 2020, at the Laurels of Pender, Burgaw.

     Martha was born on September 23, 1923 to Harold and Estana Lasher Decker in Beech Ridge, New York.  Martha attended and graduated in 1941 from Hunter-Tannersville Central High School.  After graduation, she worked as a postmaster in Lexington, NY and for General Electric in Schenectady, NY. On July 22, 1950, she married William C. Soules.  During their 60 year marriage, they lived in Herkimer, NY, Brunswick, ME; Meriden, CT; Harwood, MD; and Manassas, VA before retiring to the Catskill Mountains in Jewett, NY in the 1980’s. Martha spent her final years with her niece, Sharon Meeker, in Burgaw, NC.

     She was pre-deceased by her husband, William, in 2010; sisters, Ollie Decker Palmer (2013) of Catskill, NY and Wilmary Decker Soule (2014) of Jewett, NY.

     Not having any children, her remaining family includes; Half-brother; William Decker of Lexington, NY, as well and Nieces and Nephews; William Palmer of St. Petersburg, FL, Charlyne (Nick) Rocco of Catskill, NY, Sharon (Rich) Meeker of Burgaw, NC and Wayne Soule (Anne Kruzinski) of Jewett and Schoharie, NY. She also has many nieces and nephews in her husband’s family.

    Cremation services were provided by Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home of Burgaw, NC. Final internment will be in the Lexington Village Cemetery in Lexington, NY. At Martha’s request, no funeral or memorial services are planned.
