Martha VonCeil Byrd Obituary

Martha VonCeil Byrd, 69,  went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

She was born on July 29, 1951 in Fayetteville to Martha Willard Byrd and the late Charles Edward Byrd, Jr.

VonCeil is survived by her mother, Martha Byrd; daughter, Felicia McPherson and husband, Jody; son, Gregory Ward; grandchildren, Chase McPherson, Mati McPherson, and Addison Spivey; sisters, Frances Cayton (Cliff) and Marie Reece (Clark); brothers, Ernest Byrd, Joseph Byrd (Connie), Kenneth Byrd (Bernice), and Terry Byrd; many nieces and nephews.

VonCeil graduated from Hope Mills High School, attended Southeastern  Community College majoring in Business Administration, and worked as a Medical Transcriptionist for 25 years. She was a member of Rileys Creek Baptist Church.

VonCeil loved the Lord and shared her Christian beliefs by teaching Sunday school and  Mission Friends, also she conducted Christmas Programs and Easter Cantatas at church for many years. Oh! How VonCeil loved the season of Christmas, but her greatest passion in life was the joy her beloved Gregory, Felicia, Jody and her grandchildren brought her. It is noted that VonCeil was an amazing seamstress, making curtains, pageant dresses, and even wedding dresses.  Her grace and internal beauty remained a constant even through her lengthy illness and VonCeil will be missed.

The family will receive friends 10 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Rileys Creek Baptist Church with funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m. in the church sanctuary. The Rev. Art Sauer will conduct the service. Burial will follow in Rileys Creek Memorial Cemetery.
