Mrs. Casteen attended Eastside Baptist Church and Union Grove Christian Church. She loved her church families dearly.

Surviving to cherish her memories her devoted children, Joseph “Joe”  Decater Casteen and wife Rhonda of Walnut Cove, Sharon Casteen Wynn and husband John of Willow Spring and Karen Casteen Young and husband David of Ramseur; grandchildren, Sandy Casteen, Gary Casteen, Amy East, Michelle Braswell, Jessica Mulkin, Jennifer Parker, Reagan Swaim, Sam Young, John Wynn, Jr.; 24 great grandchildren, one great-great grandson; brothers, Haywood and Lynell Craft, both of Rocky Point and numerous extended family and friends that loved Mary dearly.

Mary was a loving mother and caring grandmother, sister and friend.  She was a woman of uncommon character, beauty and grace; and to those who knew her, “an instrument of God’s love on this earth.”  Mary was kindhearted and a friend to all. She was small in stature but had a great big heart.  She looked for and encouraged the best in everyone.
