Maryjo Humphries, age 73, of Wilmington, NC left this earth to join her son on
Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in Wilmington, NC.
Maryjo was born August 11, 1947 to the late Thomas Earl Hayman and Mary Charmaine Maupin Hayman at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, FL.
She is survived by her son, Gregory T. Humphries and wife, Shannon; brother, Patrick Hayman; sister, Sharon Hayman Basham; and granddaughter, Madison.
Maryjo was the eldest of five siblings and in addition to her parents, Maryjo was predeceased by her son, Jimmy Anthony Humphries; sister, Martina Hayman Roach; and brother, Michael Hayman.
Married in 1966 to Jim A. Humphries in Cocoa Beach, FL she soon traveled to Hawaii for 2 years joining her husband during his deployment. Durham and Madison, NC is where she raised her family, made lasting friendships and began a career in banking.
In 1992, Maryjo relocated to Melbourne, FL to assist with the merger of Southeast Bank with First Union National Bank. Banking was her career until her community service led her to the not-for-profit Space Coast Early Intervention Center (SCEIC) where she served as Chairman. After the death of her son in 1997, her priority was to give more of herself to the community. She became the Finance Director of the Center and retired from banking. Fundraising and being part of SCEIC with the teachers, parents and children was the high point of her career.
It was in June 2004 when Maryjo packed up and moved to Wilmington, NC to be closer to her son, Greg. Taking a few years to herself and helping Greg with his business, she spent her time in a variety of employment positions finally finishing her career with The Mayfaire Management Company in Wilmington, NC.
A memorial service will be held at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home in Wilmington on Friday, May 21, 2021 at 2pm with Fr. John Lyle, OSFS, officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
I am so very grateful for the time I shared with my Mother.
