Mattie Jean (James) Wilkins

Mattie Jean James Wilkins, age 85, of Colfax, NC and formerly of Wilmington, NC left this earthly life on Thursday, June 1, 2023, for her eternal rest and to be forever with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

She was born on July 25, 1937, in Wayne County, NC, the daughter of the late Raleigh Z. James and Thelma Grady James Thomas.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ken L. Wilkins, Sr. and her siblings, Margie James and Norwood James.

Surviving to cherish her memory are her children, Ken Wilkins, Jr. and wife Saralyn of Henderson, Nevada, Neal Wilkins and wife Emily of Durham, NC, Gloria Brown and husband Page of Colfax, NC, and Jonathan Wilkins and wife Laura of Wilmington, NC; grandchildren, Katherine, Daniel, David, Kennedy, Sophie, Abby, Moira, Michael and Mercedes; sister, Brenda Bromley-Turner of Wallace, NC; sister-in-law Carolyn Bullock of Kinston, NC; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends that loved Jean dearly.    

Jean was a devoted wife and mother, loving grandmother and sister.  She found great joy in the simplest things in life, but her greatest joy was family. Jean was a diligent homemaker and with a joyful spirit she filled her home with love and welcomed all who entered.  She was a hard worker who worked outside the home but always put God and her family first.  She retired as a Fiber Optics Operator after 27 years with Corning, Inc.  Jean was very involved in many ministries of the Assembly of God Church.  She taught Sunday School, was a Missionette leader, sang in the choir and was always helping with meals for and at the church.  Jean was a true servant of the Lord.  Being a good neighbor and friend, she was loved by all who knew her.  Most of all, Jean loved the Lord with all her heart and her family is grateful to God that they have the assurance of where she is today.  Jean will surely be missed but treasured memories of her will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.    

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at The Church at Pin Hook in Wallace, NC, with Pastor David Walker officiating.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, one hour prior the service at the church.

Committal service will follow the funeral service at James Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be George Brown, Jr., Parker Brown, Larry Brown, Sr., Wayne Brown, Jeromy Kerr, and Edward Pigford

Honorary casketbearers will be Karl Osward and Aaron Small
