McDonald Southerland, beloved husband, daddy, granddaddy, great grandaddy, brother, and loyal friend departed his earthly life Thursday, November 4, 2021.
He was born October 9, 1935 in Duplin County to Henry D. Southerland and Wren Vernon Southerland. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Hilda Rivenbark Southerland; daughter, Angela Southerland; son, Donald Southerland; and brothers H.D. Southerland and Cecil Southerland.
McDonald is survived by his son, Randy Southerland (Sarah); grandchildren, Res Southerland, Patricia Southerland, Mason Teachey, Kayla Southerland, Britton Prosser (Chris), Kyleigh Piner; 12 great grandchildren; sisters, Doris Hilliard and Christine Holland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was a Pender County farmer who loved being outdoors tilling the soil in God’s bountiful world of nature. Mac served his country honorably in the US Navy.
McDonald loved his family and especially doted on his grandchildren and great grandchildren, who affectionately called him Doo Daddy. McDonald was a doer on this earth . . . always ready and willing to lend a helping hand, cooking breakfast for whoever showed up at his home on Sunday mornings, and cruising around to check on folks. Mac loved nothing better than a day at the hunting camp with his hunting buddies as well as a day in the woods hunting. Mac’s passing leaves an empty place in our family circle and in our hearts.
The family will receive friends 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel and at other times will be at the home of Randy and Sarah Southerland.
