Melinda Ruth Corbett Butler, 55, of Rocky Point passed from her earthly life Sunday. July 12, 2020 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
She was born December 25, 1964 in Wilmington, the daughter of the late Willis Rudolph and Gertrude McLamb Corbett. Also remembered is her beloved husband of 24 years, Joseph “Joe” Allen Butler, who preceded Melinda in death in 2009.
Melinda is survived by her sons, Allen Everett Butler and Jeremiah Cicero Butler; sisters, Darlene Sherman (Steve), Margie Williams (Joe), and Judy Heath; brothers, Calvin Corbett, and Thomas Parker (Juanita); sister-in-law, Linda Parker; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Melinda was the rare soul who had the courage to face the world with her true self. She could be the sweetest and kindest person, or the determined lady. No matter the struggles that life sent her way, she battled through and kept going, providing inspiration to those around her. If she could not get over a mountain, she would go through it. Yet beneath it all, she still had a heart that was overflowing with love, compassion, and a deep devotion to her family and friends. Melinda was also an intensely loyal and loving mom, wife, sister, and aunt who loved spending time with family. All of her friends and relatives have “Melinda stories” of fun times spent together, laughs shared, tears shed, or mischief gotten into. She was our mom, our sister, our aunt, our best friend. She was our Melinda and she will be forever missed.
A graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 16, 2020 at Point Caswell Cemetery with The Rev. Butler Anderson conducting the service.
