Nelson Clyde Corbett, 76, passed from his earthly life on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, while at Transitions Lifecare in Raleigh, NC.
He was born February 24, 1949 in Pender County, the son of Norris Clifton “Ben” Corbett and Dora Ludlam Corbett. In addition to his parents, Clyde was preceded in death by his nephews, Freddy Simpson and Jeremy Simpson.
Clyde is survived by his sisters, Daphne C. McBride and husband, Rev. James “Jim” McBride and Emily C. Simpson and husband, James Fredrick Simpson IV; nephew, Jimmy McBride (Patti); niece, Tonya Robles (Mike); niece-in-law, Jennifer Simpson; and many extended family members.
Clyde served his country honorably in the US Army during the Vietnam war. As a youth Clyde always considered himself an entrepreneur starting with selling candy bars in the neighborhood, with which he was quite successful. In his school years Clyde loved basketball and was an excellent player. In later years before Freddy and Jeremy had a driver’s license Clyde was their “taxi driver” getting them wherever they needed to go while Emily and Fredrick worked. They had so much fun, lots of laughs and stories to tell. In most recent years when you went to see Clyde, he was happy to see you and always hoping that you brought him a diet Pepsi and a honey bun. Clyde is now at peace, resting in the arms of Jesus, and happily joking with Freddy and Jeremy.
