Orville Earl Gurganus

Orville Earl Gurganus, age 79, of Rocky Point, left this earthly life for his eternal rest on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 after a lengthy illness. 

He was born on April 22, 1944 in Onslow County; the son of the late Lloyd and Dorothy Gurganus.  He was also preceded in death by his son, Timothy Earl Gurganus in 2018.

Surviving to cherish his memory is his best friend and loving wife of 20 great years, Margarett West of the home; grandson, Dalton Gurganus of Penderlea; step children, Billy Melville and wife Jeannie of Harrells; Mike Melville and friend Rae of Wilmington, Kathy Sanderson and husband Danny of Rose Hill; 6 step grandchildren, 7 step great grandchildren; sister-in-law Gerre Waters; numerous extended family and friends that loved Earl dearly.    

Earl was a wonderful husband and caring father, grandfather and step father who loved his family with all his heart.  He was a simple man who enjoyed simple things such as fishing, the mountains and riding motorcycles.  He was part owner and operator of G & H Construction Company.  He was a member of the Shriners and enjoyed working with the men whether it was cooking or being in parades.  Earl was a people's person and he never met a stranger.  With a witty personality, Earl always had the best one-liners and could always make you laugh.  He was one whom you never heard him say anything bad about anyone else.  To Margaret, he was the BEST man she had ever known.  Earl will surely be missed but treasured memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.  

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 15, 2023 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Wallace Chapel with Pastor Phiiip Eakins officiating. 

The family will received friends from 10:00a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Monday, one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home.

Burial will follow the service at Gurganus Cemetery, Richlands, NC  

Casket bearers will be Mike Melville, Danny Sanderson, Dalton Gurganus, Mickey Gainey, Mark Gurganus and Bobby Gurganus.
