Pat Albert "Al" Hicks, Sr.

     Pat Albert “Al” Hicks, Sr., 74, of Rocky Point passed peacefully from his earthy life Friday, October 15, 2021 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

     He was born February 24, 1947 in Villa Rica, Georgia, the son of Tommy Philips and Florence Louise Sanford Philips. In addition to his parents Al was predeceased by his sons-in-law, Todd Boyette and Patrick Murray, and grandson, Seth Laughter.

     Al is survived by his wife, Barbara Hicks; son, Pat Hicks, Jr.(Theresa); daughter, Erica Hicks (Hank); grandchildren, Alicia Baldridge (Jason), Tabetha Brewer (Kieron), Buddy Carter (Sydney), Patrick Murray, Courtney Hicks, Toni Hicks, and Gage Laughter; nine great grandchildren; step-children, Staci, Chrissy, and Michael; ten step-grandchildren; four step-great grandchildren; and many extended family. We must not forget his beagles  that he and Barbara have raised through the years and currently have Rip and Jip.

     He was retired after working for 30 years with International Paper in Riegelwood.

     Al loved his family and was the BEST husband, daddy, granddaddy and great granddaddy anyone could ask for. With the CB handle of “Big Al”, he enjoyed hours  communicating on his CB radio. Al always made time for a fishing trip to Lee Island off of Topsail Island and for watching NASCAR. Al loved God’s beautiful outdoors whether on the water or in his own back yard.

     A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with Pastor Jason Baldridge conducting the service. The family will receive friends following the service.
